Shot on Film.

Yes, in 2024 I am still playing with film. It’s hard to work with, fickle, antiquated, expensive, unreliable, but undeniably beautiful. The range of tones from Ilford HP5 and the soft color palette from Kodak Portra 400 are never replicated in digital. Digital is sometimes, “too good.” It’s too easy. The constant challenge of working with film is what keeps me going back. The click, wind, and focusing action of a Leica rangefinder is as a satisfying experience as there is in photography. Someday when I retire from professional photography, my only camera with be a Leica with a 50mm lens. Yes, I wax poetic about film and romanticize its characteristics, but I also don’t trust it as far as I could through and would never put anything remotely important like your family pictures on it. It’s a side project, a hobby, a little personal project in the midst of a busy wedding day. If it’s something that resonates with you, let me know and I’ll definitely rip off a few rolls on your wedding day. Otherwise, if you see me with my funky old camera, don’t mind me. I’m just having fun with it.
